Blue Runner at Ocean World Marina after 2.5 days of sailing...

In sharp contrast to our passage to Caicos, our passage to the Dominican Republic was relatively uneventful with light winds and calm seas.  Our surprise came in the early morning hours when we could smell the rainforest more than 15 miles offshore.  It was at dawn when we saw what the dark was hiding: towering cliffs, and green lush mountains from sea level up to 2000 feet.  We're excited to explore our new tropical world.

We rented motorbikes and cruised from Puerto Plata to Luperon.  Along the way we ran into some rain in the countryside and stopped to wait under a tree.  A local gentleman gave us shelter in his outdoor kitchen.  We practiced Spanish with his mother and she allowed us to take a few photos.

Past the city of Puerto Plata there are two small beach towns, Sosua and Cabarete.  They are hotspots for kite surfing, wind surfing, wave surfing and extreme water sports.
