Guadeloupe - Pointe a Pitre
Late June & Early J
uly 2010
(01-07-2010) Today we walked into the city of Pointe a Pitre.  They do not see many American tourists.  We got to practice using French and managed to get some good prices on vegetables, spices, fish and lunch!  I had to smell each spice to tell what the English word would be.

European Architecture - Iron Balconies Strange wood / sheet metal architecture Old wooden buildings on the waterfront All types of spices grown on the island

Every type of fish is available  Fishermen on the waterfront selling their catch, and a flock of pelicans waiting for scraps  Excellent selection, very cheap

Jacques Cousteau National Park
(28-06-2010) Wow - Guadeloupe is a very, very large island....  Our first quick overnight stop was at the Jacques Cousteau National Marine Park (Pigeon Island) on the leeward side. The coral was healthy and everything was beautiful and flourishing, but we got in late and were too tired to spend much time underwater.  We stayed overnight on a dive mooring in the lee of a tiny cove.  The bioluminescence was out-of-this-world cool.
