We sailed into Montserrat "Little Bay" anchorage today (27-06-2010).  It was just a quick overnight stay to rest before moving further South.  The seas were big, coming from all different directions and of course the wind was dead on our course, but we tacked for 8 hours and eventually dropped the hook in calm waters.

Anne found a bat cave that she snorkeled into and scared all the hissing bats. She also found a flying gurnard on the bottom while setting the anchor.

Today, as we sailed out of the anchorage we decided to sail close to the island in the "exclusion zone" since the wind direction had the majority of the ash blowing away from us.  The volcano is spectacular.  We could see a huge ash cloud belch out the top and all the ash running down the mountain covering the ruins of the city, Plymouth.  I believe the volcano took back the city in 1993.  Since then, it has remained very active, sending ash clouds all over the Caribbean.
