Puerto Rico
October 2007

Another 250 miles to windward is behind us.  Our friend Pat joined Blue Runner in the Dominican Republic and helped sail the boat to Ponce, Puerto Rico.  The winds were 10 - 15 knots and Mona Passage was relatively pleasant.

Chris & Blue RunnerIt was as if we sailed right back into Miami, only 1000 miles offshore.  Puerto Rico is very Americanized (Sears, JC Penny's, West Marine, fast food chains, large super markets, malls, etc.) The city of Ponce has a very nice Yacht Club where Blue Runner was given the last slip available.  They have a strong J-boat sailing program with regattas every Sunday and large weekend sailing events.  The yacht club is next to "La Guancha" or the Malecon (boardwalk) with restaurants, bars, shops and kiosk vendors along the waterfront.

Tropical Storm Noel passed over Puerto Rico while we were here.  Thankfully, the storm was only a tropical depression while it was near Blue Runner.
