Rum Cay & Long Island, Bahamas
The Far Out Islands
Beginning of August 2007

The wind was moderate, the seas were bumpy and the weather was on our nose, but Blue Runner managed to hold a main sail just off the wind during our crossing from George Town to Rum Cay.  We came into port just ahead of another tropical wave, so we settled in to Sumner Point Marina in Port Nelson for 3 days.Sportfish Yacht Filming

The boys from Reel Adventure, a fishing show on Fox TV, had a number of large sport fish yachts in the marina.  They were filming a Bahamas game fishing special.  On the night we arrived they had 6 large nurse sharks, 2 aggressive bull sharks and a Caribbean reef shark swimming near the back of the boat thrashing after bait on a handline.  The underwater photographer was in heaven, putting the camera inside the shark's mouth when they came close.

We made a quick stop in Clarence Town, Long Island before heading to Provo.  The fishing was excellent near the sandbar entrance and we caught a Cero Mackerel on the way in for dinner that night.  Some of the fishing captains gave us tuna steaks & snapper fillets before we departed.
