Staniel Cay, Exumas

Thunderball Grotto & "Big Major Anchorage"
Mid July 2007

Upon our arrival to the Big Major Anchorage, we were greeted by the famous swimming pigs. They're quite friendly and will gladly accept hand-outs.  We later saw the same beach had cats and goats... Not quite what you'd expect on an uninhabited tropical island.

We were awed by the spectacular snorkeling around Staniel Cay. The tiny islands and grottos are surrounded by coral gardens, mini walls and abundant marine life.  We spent some time swimming through the underwater caves and exploring the reef.

Once inside, the Thunderball Grotto opens up into a sun lit cave.  The fish swarm around the two entrances.

Can anyone tell me what this is?  It looks like a pearl, formed into the coral.  Sometimes they resemble chrome, and other times it's a blue/green color.

What is this?

I found out this is called a Sea Pearl, or Green Bubble Algae.  Thank you for the responses.
